Elect Collicutt for Council

Economic Resilience to Create Opportunities

There is no question, the Powell River economy has suffered with the loss of the major industrial mill operations. But Powell River’s community resilience and hard-working people have kept our economy moving forward. The ongoing work of small business and volunteer organizations does not go unnoticed and remains paramount to the success of our community.
A new Council needs to support economic diversification with competitive taxation rates across the board, encourage small/medium business retention and development, and remain open for business at City Hall. A priority for Powell River is to seek out new business and industry to replace the loss of the industrial mill tax revenue.

When elected, my pledge is to:

  • build on the City’s economic attraction as a highly liveable coastal community with its rich history and marine-based eco-tourism destination hotspot at the top of the Sunshine Coast
  • advocate to the Province to encourage new investments and expansion of sustainable resource sector and business development, and work to ensure investment and development gives back revenues to the community
  • support economic diversification with competitive & affordable property taxation rates to ensure we are open for business and viable as a community to live in and invest
  • consider City-owned lands development potential with the goals of increasing property tax revenues
  • move forward on implementation of the City’s Downtown Plan; steer the City to develop a comprehensive public engagement strategy to engage the public on areas of public concern, seek solutions and gain consensus to move the project forward in a way that is inclusive and will benefit the entire community
  • continue to support and collaborate with the Powell River Community Forest (PRCF) Board of Directors in their oversight of the PRCF Reserve fund
  • support affordable, accessible and timely access for all ages to and from our community when using the BC Ferries transportation system on our marine-based highways
  • support Marine/Joyce Avenue commercial corridor area beautification projects
