Elect Collicutt for Council
Fiscal Responsibility to Stabilize Spending
There are serious fiscal issues facing our community. Since 2022, municipal revenues are down 40% and expenses are up 20.5%1. Over the last three-year taxation period (2024 to 2026), the municipal residential tax rate increased by 31.85%, despite having the second highest residential assessed values, ever, in 20262. Looking ahead, this financial situation is unaffordable for the City and not sustainable.
To change course, we need to identify workable strategic priorities, look for efficiencies and keep costs under control by living within our means. The challenges over these next four years will be funding existing service levels without cutting costs or incurring major property tax increases. I will be disciplined in my approach to setting strategic priorities, cost-wise, and will work to set priorities that are focused, practical and achievable. I will support initiatives that work in the best interests of community to advance residential, business and industry development to increase revenues so we can stop asking residents and businesses always to pay more.

When elected, my pledge is to:
- work to set strategic priorities that are disciplined, fiscally responsible, practical and focused, and that can be accomplished
- review new/pilot projects’ fiscal merit, its impacts to taxation, pre-set priorities and year-over-year operational budget and capital asset management plans through a disciplined fiscal lens, with the goal of living within our means
- seriously consider priority and the merits of any new project funded solely by taxpayer subsidy or limited, time-sensitive grant funds with an end date
